Internships, volunteer opportunities and professional fellowships to apply for in 2020

This is for those looking for opportunities to gain international experience via volunteering or internship with organizations, etc.

For recent graduates and individuals considering a career change, an internship is a way to try a new job without making a permanent commitment.

An internship allows you to gain experience, job knowledge and skills in a variety of career fields, to gain, and to decide on - or opt-out - of a certain vocation.

Some organizations offer free accommodation and meals during your stay. All you need to pay for is your flight (as for that please go back to some of those links I shared previously on how to monetize your ideas and skills).

Some organizations offering international volunteer/experiential learning opportunities require a program fee. Some are very affordable & others are expensive because of what they will offer you (accommodation, meals and other local travels in the country where you will be volunteering). Nothing beats international experiential learning.

How to search for internships

●Search leading job sites and companies by internship filters or by using the keyword "intern or internship" to locate other internship opportunities.

●You can use Google for Jobs to search directly for internships on Google. Search using "internship" and the location where you want to work as keywords. Use the advanced search function and select internships from the “show jobs by type” tab.

●You can also view internship listings scoured from company websites or posted on job boards by employers.

●If you’re currently a student or recent graduate, your college’s Career Services or Internship Programs office is a good resource to use to line up an internship. Visit them on campus or check out their online resources when classes aren’t in session.

●Join any LinkedIn or Shapr or Facebook groups.

Meet with, email or call members of any group to ask for relevant information about careers and advice or how to do a meaningful internship search.

●If you’re a recent graduate looking for some work experience or are interested in a career change, consider an internship to get an insider’s view of a new career field. Don’t underestimate the value you can gain from speaking to your classmates.

●Plan your internship search just as you would a job search, but specify when you apply that you’re interested in an internship rather than a permanent position.

●Don’t stop at just one internship. If your schedule allows, use internships to explore a variety of different career options. Don’t be afraid to try out a variety of roles in industries you are interested in. Connect your passion and purpose to people & projects. Also remember to be kind and patient to yourself.
